Mikhail Piotrovsky

Director of the Hermitage Museum

«The culture bridges should be the last to go down,» thinks academician Mikhail Piotrovsky, Director of the famous Hermitage Museum. Culture is the very thing that creates strong ties among different nations. The museum’s practical work is built around the same principle.
The Hermitage is a universal encyclopaedic museum. It brings together different cultures and helps them engage in a robust dialogue. Such dialogues of cultures have been going on for centuries in the architectural identify of St. Petersburg — a splendid museum city and home to the Hermitage. It is St. Petersburg — the city of bridges, both real and cultural, that will be in the spotlight of the speaker’s lecture.

About the speaker:

Mikhail Piotrovsky — Director of the Hermitage Museum since 1992; Dean and Professor at the Faculty of Asian and African Studies of St. Petersburg State University; Chairman of the Union of Russian Museums; full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Arts.
