The Yakobson Ballet is one of Russia’s oldest ballet companies from Saint-Petersburg founded more than half a century ago, in 1966. Since then, the company had blossomed under the leadership of outstanding choreographer Leonid Yakobson.
The works of the master from Leningrad who created unique dance plastique were at different times performed by Mikhail Baryshnikov, Alla Osipenko, Maya Plisetskaya and other world ballet superstars. Yakobson’s genius shone especially brightly in the genre of miniature. Original choreographic vignettes fascinated the audiences in Russia and were very warmly accepted in Europe. His contemporaries considered Yakobson one of the best choreographers of the 20th century ranking him equal to George Balanchine, Maurice Béjart and Roland Petit.

Today, the legendary company is headed by the People’s Artist of Russia and world ballet star Andrian Fadeev who has under his belt a distinguished career of a ballet dancer and leading dancer of the Mariinsky Theater. Performances and productions created under his artistic supervision demonstrate originality and versatility of genres. Maintaining its supreme level of mastership and remaining loyal to tradition, the team performs choreographic masterpieces by Leonid Yakobson, world ballet classics and works of the most prominent contemporary choreographers.

Performances of the Yakobson Ballet during the Hermitage Days are a rare opportunity for the Serbian audience to see the gems of the repertoire offered by one of the best Russian ballet companies and feel the special atmosphere of a Saint-Petersburg theater.
